"Four Shakuhachi Meditations"
- Andrew MacGregor CD |
 |
1. IMAYO (14:36) This origins of this music are rooted in the ancient traditions of Japan and it is today still used in a religious context. This melody is also reminiscent of the Japanese folk song Kuroda Bushi.
2. GRATITUDE (11:09) The arrangement of the Zen shakuhachi piece expressing gratitude, is combined with the sustained sounds of didgeridoo, harmonic singing.
3. BEGINNING (20:29 Two versions of the Zen piece "Shirabe", "Beginning", are combined with a lullaby from Shimabara and cello improvisations to create a scene of deep meditation.
4. MOUNTAIN PASS (18:11) Travellers crossing the mountain pass offered a prayer to the god of the pass for their safe journey. The rich sounds of the clarinet, the earth-rhythms of the clapping stones, and the Japanese lullaby (Itsuki no komoriuta) provide a hypnotic backing to this shakuhachi ceremonial music.

"Water Music "
- Riley Lee CD |
 |
A set of amazing improvisations on this unlikely instrument. The recording was made in a water storage reservoir that serves inner Sydney. It was opened for the first time in its 100 years for repairs, and revealed a cathedral-like space ideal for recording. It rained heavily before the recording and continuous water dripping is a feature of the sound.
Soothing, meditative escape, invoking a peaceful respite.

Mindfulness of Breathing |

Managing Pain, Illness, & Stress with Guided Mindfulness Meditation
by Vidyamala
"Mindfulness of Breathing," uses the dynamic of the breath to help us become aware of the physical sensations of the breathing as the air flows in and out of the body. With this practice the mind gradually becomes quieter and the listener experiences greater contentment.
In 2001, Vidyamala began teaching mindfulness-based approaches to others living with physical pain and illness. She first produced her CD's, which she co-leads with her partner and fellow meditation teacher Sona, as a support for the students attending her pain-management classes. One former pain-reduction student, writer and journalist Olga Kenyon, says that Vidyamala's teaching has helped her through years of chronic pain, and has allowed her to transform her thinking so that she can now face life and even be cheerful in the face of her debilitating bone condition. Jan Sadler, the founder of PainSupport and author of Natural Pain Relief, says that the recordings "Show what a great and deep understanding of chronic pain, and stress" Vidyamala and Sona have.
Vidyamala's approach to pain management is based on the central skill of mindfulness - an ability to be aware, in the moment, and nonjudgmentally, of what you are actually experiencing - and learning to respond creatively. Pain and illness are innately unpleasant experiences and inevitably many of us develop unhelpful habits in reaction such as aversion, avoidance and tension. This just adds to the overall experience of suffering. "Mindfulness can help us break this cycle of reactivity and regain a sense of initiative, confidence and control," says Vidyamala. |

Tibetan Meditation Beginning Meditation CDs

In the beginning meditation helps to become quiet, still, calm and relaxed. Later we discover that it offers a way to deal with our thoughts and emotions.
More fundamentally, meditation is a process of understanding and pursuing what is real, what is valuable, and what is possible. |
